Do I Need MCA Food Safety Level 2-3-4 to Work on a Yacht?

Many people are asking me if they need MCA Food Safety Certificate to work on a boat!

Food and safety is not a mandatory certificate BUT it's highly recommended when comes to Stewardess or Chef position.

No matter if you are a Junior Crew or you already have a couple of seasons of yacht experience, MCA Food Safety is a qualification that you will need.

The good news is that the certificate is not so expensive and you can take it online via Zoom. In the last year, MCA has changed its rules and now they allow some of the courses to be taken online (Zoom). Thank God... that makes it much easier.

 Where Can I Take MCA Food Safety and What Level Do I Need?

Food Safety Level 2 is appropriate for junior crew members that handles food - service stew, stewardess, stew/cook , chef, crew chef and stew/deck. 

If you want to apply for a Chef position on 30+m yacht you will need Food Safety Level 3 or Ship Cook Certificate depending on how big is the yacht and is it commercial or private.
